The Workshop Manifesto

Press Play Collective was created for people who care how clothing is made, and how it holds up over time. Founded in Perth in 2024, we are fabric-first by design and detail-driven by nature. Japanese denim and organic cotton anchor our collections, with each piece made slowly and built to last.

Fabric first:
Over the years our design process has changed as we’ve grown. We used to begin with an idea, a product, a silhouette, a theme. Now we begin with the fabric. We don’t make pieces just because a trend is loud or because it would sell fast. That usually leads to rushed decisions and cheap materials, and that isn’t what we’re building.
Instead, we prioritise sourcing deadstock, organic, or certified fabrics first, then we design what’s worthy of the fabric. We see this as a craft, learning through making, improving through repetition, staying honest as we evolve.

Built to last:
It feels like a given that whatever you buy should last a long time. In the fashion industry, that often isn’t the case. We want Press Play pieces to be something you buy once, wear for years, and then, when the time comes, either pass on or recycle properly.

That standard applies to everything we make. Denim is just where it shows most clearly. We work with deadstock denim from trusted mills in Japan to help ensure consistent quality. The denim needs to be hard-wearing, and the construction needs to hold up through real life, not just careful wear. We take pride in building denim properly, the kind that holds up to wear and ages well.

We also wash our denim to help stabilise the fabric and reduce unexpected shrinkage after you receive it. Denim is meant to change with you. It will soften and shape through wear, and that’s part of the character. The goal is that it ages well.

Longevity is a partnership, though. We do our part in making the garment properly, and you play your part by caring for it properly. We make that simple with our care and washing guide. https://pressplaycollective.com.au/pages/care-wash-guide

What you see is what you get:
Transparency and honesty are values the brand is built on. We put a lot of work into what we make. The fabric, construction, and details are all given the time they need to reach our standard. Presentation matters, and so does accuracy. Nobody likes false advertising, and we’re building a brand people can trust when they add something to their cart. That means the imagery, details, and descriptions for each product will always be accurate and specific to what you’re buying. To us, this is how communities are built, through trust.

Made to order, by design:
We make clothing slowly, often made to order, and always in small batches. That lets us keep our standards high and keep waste lower, because we are not producing bulk quantities that end up sitting unsold.

Working this way also means we can be more flexible with fit. Alterations and varied sizing are more available, and we can help you choose what will work best for your body. If you have your eye on something but you’re unsure how it will fit, message us and we’ll help you find the right fit.

Care made tangible:
Press Play pieces are considered, and they are priced honestly. We want you to feel that care from the first click to the first wear. That means clear communication, accurate sizing, and packaging that matches the garment inside. Presentation matters to us because it shows respect for what you’ve invested in. We want the unboxing to feel like Christmas morning, because what’s inside is the result of hours of work, careful construction, and a standard we stand behind.

What we’re working toward:
We value growth in the areas that matter most. We are proud of what we’ve built, and we do our best to stop and smell the roses when we can, but we are always learning and improving as we go.
More specifically, we’re working toward building a brand that earns trust through consistency. A brand that stays honest, aligns with like-minded people and stockists, and keeps bringing sustainable, playful pieces into the world that we’d want to wear ourselves.

A living document:
This manifesto will evolve as we learn better ways to work. The standard will always stay, but our method will improve.
